Caroline Mae Mowitz - December 31, 1969Caroline Mae Mowitz, 72, of Council Bluffs Iowa, died Sept. 1, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. Memorials are directed to the Scleroderma Research Foundation or Caring Voice Coalition.
She was born to Mildred and Raymond Lewis on Oct. 2, 1936, in Humphrey. In 1942, the Lewis family moved to York. She attended Westgate Elementary School and graduated from York High School in 1955. Following graduation, she moved to Omaha and worked at the telephone office.
On Feb. 25, 1961, she married Donald Lee Mowitz at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, and they moved to a farm six miles north of Hampton. She stayed at home and worked on the farm until her husband’s death in 1970. Following his death, she worked as a waitress and later managed the convenience store for the Farmer’s Cooperative. She retired in 1988.
After her retirement, she moved to Omaha to live with her sister, Sharon. She most recently resided in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton, but most recently worshipped at St. John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mildred Lewis; her brother, Dale; husband, Don; brother-in-law, Roger Watkins; and her in-laws, Elmer and Helen Mowitz.
She is survived by her brother, Dean Lewis; sister, Sharon Watkins; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lewis; her children, Lynn Mowitz, Linda (Mike) Hahn; four nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Madeline and Noah Hahn; two step grandchildren, Liz Warner and Amanda Hahn; two step great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
