Roger Brazda - August 22, 2009

Roger A. Brazda, 67, of Hordville, died at the Nebraska Veterans Hospital in Grand Island on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk with Rev. Roy Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Polk. Burial will be at the Polk Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 6 in Central City and American Legion Post No. 160 of Polk.

Roger Allan Brazda was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Swanton to James and Bertha (Homolka) Brazda. In 1953, he moved from Swanton to Polk, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He then entered the United States Navy on Nov. 24, 1959 and proudly served until his honorable discharge on Nov. 23, 1965. He went back to Polk until 1967 when he moved to Hordville. He raised hogs, cattle and farmed in the Hordville area until his retirement in 2004.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk. He was an avid traveler, and had visited all seven continents. He was planning a 110-day around the world cruise until he found out about his cancer, which didn’t allow him to travel. He also enjoyed square dancing and polka dancing. He was a member of a square dancing club that traveled around the United States.
Survivors include brothers Robert (Mary) Brazda of Polk and Glen (Kathy) Brazda of Fullerton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Brazda and three nephews.
