George Ellis Jr. - August 11, 2009

Hastings resident George Ellis Jr., 77 died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at the University Medical Center in Omaha with his family by his side.
His wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services were Saturday, Aug. 15 at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating.
Memorials are directed to the family.
He was born July 26, 1932 in Shelton to George and Rose (Sadd) Ellis, Sr.
He grew up in the Shelton area and entered the Air Force when he was 17. He worked for KN Energy, drove for the US Postal Service, owned and operated Custom Vac and retired running Ellis Trucking. He worked hard his whole life.
He loved and cared for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, in Hastings.
He met and married Erma L. Eastman-Ellis-Luth.
Survivors include his children, Gregory (Julie) Ellis, William Ellis, both of Hastings, Pamela Sweeney of Grand Island, Nancy (Bill) Arndt of Aurora, George “Junior” Ellis of Milwaukee, Wisc., Vickie (Ron) Lonowski of Grand Island, Jackie (Tyler) Waite, and an adopted daughter, Claudette (Craig) Cihal both of Hastings; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchldren; sisters, Patsy Juett, of Grand Island, and Jeanne (Arthur) Stark of Hastings; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and brother, Tommy Ellis; grandchildren, Douglas and Tammy Ellis.
