Donna Hosier - June 11, 2014Donna Hosier, age 88, formerly of Giltner, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Hamilton Manor.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at the Stockham Community Church. Revs. Chris Lyon and Paul Nauman will officiate. A private family graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Donna Ruth Hosier, the daughter of Maniel Ray and Zora (Coffey) Stevenson, was born on a farm five miles southeast of Giltner, on Jan. 9, 1926 and passed away in Aurora, on June 11, 2014, at the age of 88.
Donna was married to Dale Wilbur Hosier on Oct. 23, 1943 at Mankato, Kans. Dale passed away on Dec. 14, 1991.
Donna graduated from Aurora High School in 1943 and taught in a rural school for three years. Dale and Donna farmed near Phillips before farming west of Giltner beginning in 1959. In 1973 they moved to their new home in Giltner.
While living in the Phillips area Donna led the Murphy Maids and Monroettes 4-H clubs to win many honors. Encouraged by her grandmother and her 8th grade rural teacher Donna became an artist who enjoyed giving talks, painting in oils, pen and ink, pastels, water color, ceramic dolls and even painted numerous scenes on circular blades and other antique items. A highlight was her personal art show in 1987. Donna also enjoyed reading, collecting cookbooks, calligraphy, puzzles, solving crossword puzzles and was an expert seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Elaine Wagner, infant sister, Bonnie Mae Stevenson and two brothers, Lyle and Duane (Dutch) Stevenson.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two daughters and one son, Pat (Dr. Jim) Omel of Grand Island, Steve (Kathy) Hosier of Giltner and Jeani (Gus) Gustafson of Uylesses, Kans.; 9 grandchildren, Rhonda (Larry) Balance, Ryan (Jen) Omel, Heather Abbott, Tucker (Sarah) Omel, Mykelin (Kirt) Watson, Tyler (Jody) Hosier, Lacie (Jeremy) Hogan, Valerie (Andrew) Gindlesberger and Alex Gustafson; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
