Wanda Klawonn - April 24, 2014Wanda Klawonn, age 89, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 28 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 381 H Street in Hampton. Memorials may be made to Hampton Lutheran School. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Wanda Joan Klawonn, the daughter of John and Anna Margaret (Schaepler) Wall, was born in Aurora, on Feb. 15, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on April 24, 2014, at the age of 89.
Wanda was confirmed on April 10, 1938 at St. Peter Church by Pastor Graebner. She attended St. Peter Lutheran Parochial and Hampton Public Schools and graduated in 1942 from Hampton High School. Following high school graduation, Wanda was employed First National Bank in York and later the Gas Company District office in York.
On July 28, 1946, Wanda married Willard E. Klawonn at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Hampton. In 1947, Willard and Wanda moved from York to the farm near Hampton where more than 63 years were spent together. One son, Kevin, was born on Nov. 23, 1953, the evening of her mother Anna Wall’s funeral.
Wanda was a lifelong member of St. Peter congregation. Among Wanda’s many interests – a 60 year member of her FCE Extension Club, 50 plus years as a Ladies Aid member, member of Senior Citizens group helping plan their events and a birthday club member. Wanda was also a 17 year Sunday School teacher and most of all her love of music. She served as a part time organist at St. Peter and shared her talent at Hamilton Manor and the Villa. She taught her two grandchildren to play the piano and organ.
Wanda cherished being with her family and grandchildren and having them all in her home. She also enjoyed her step grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She had a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Wall, sisters, Lilah Elliott and Arleen Miller, step-mother, Eva Lynn Wall.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Willard E. Klawonn of Hampton; son, Kevin (Miriam) Klawonn of Hampton; 2 grandchildren, Jason K. Klawonn of Vermillion, SD, Janet Kay Klawonn and fiance Joshua Steager; step-grandchildren, Alycia (Brian) Litz of Grand Island, Chelsy (Darius) Tellez of Bellevue and Luke Jurgensen of Hampton; step great-grandchildren, Ethan Litz and Olivia, Sophia and Jovia Tellez; step-sister, Donna Chandler of Fremont and several nieces and nephews.
