Storm to play in GI Classic PDF E-mail

High Plains Storm was invited to Saturday's seventh-annual Heartland Hoops Classic at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.
“We are excited and ready to go,” coach Cameron Hudson said. “We like the environment and look at it as a fun day and one that we are happy to be participating in.”
The day-long event kicks off with a 9 a.m. contest between D-1 No. 6 Overton (16-4) and Sutton (12-8) and ends with a highly-rated match-up between Class A No. 4 Omaha Central (17-3) and Denver East (16-3).
The Storm will hit the hardwood against C-2 No. 3 Freeman (19-3) at 10:45 a.m.
“Freeman is very physical, patient, and has solid shooters,” Hudson said. “They play solid physical defense that will look to hold us to one shot every possession. They will run a patient offense that really sets hard screens and will force us to be disciplined.”
The Classic comes a couple weeks before Feb. 24 when High Plains takes their talents to David City for subdistricts, where they have a chance to punch their ticket to the state tournament.
“I think this is a great measuring stick for us at the end of the year,” Hudson said. “It can only help us as we prepare for the following weeks.”
