Giltner nearly mounted a big comeback in the opening round of this year’s Class D2 state tournament, but Wynot slammed the door shut late and sent the Hornets home with a 55-40 defeat Thursday night at Lincoln High School.
It was the third straight state tournament in which the two teams played each other, with the Hornets winning the last two years in the semifinals at Pershing Center. The game was also the first time since 2010 that Giltner had lost at the state tournament, when Hay Springs knocked off the Hornets 69-66 in overtime.
