Aurora fall cleanup starts Oct. 20 PDF E-mail

The City of Aurora will host its annual fall cleanup days Oct. 20-28 with special rates and additional hours the waste site will be open.

The city’s waste site will be open on Oct. 20 and 27 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. On Oct. 21 and 28, the gates will remain open from 1-4 p.m. Gates also will be open from 1-7 p.m. Oct. 24-26. All hours are weather permitting.

There will be a compost pile available for leaves and grass only. No plywood, cardboard, plastic bags, garbage, garden waste, hedge trimmings or any other foreign material will be allowed.

A brush pile for untreated, unpainted lumber, hedge trimmings and tree limbs will be available for Aurora residents. No plywood, cardboard, plastic bags, garbage, garden waste, grass, leaves or any other foreign material will be allowed.

Any other material that is not allowed in the brush or compost pile must be placed in the roll-off container. This includes construction waste, plywood, cardboard, old furniture, plastics, household garbage or any other material.

A fee as determined by the waste site attendant will be charged for anything placed in the roll-off container. During fall cleanup hours, the fee will be half price for all patrons, except for construction materials or commercial customers.

No tires or hazardous waste will be accepted. These include used motor oil, outdated household chemicals, paint and pesticides.

Metal, scrap iron, batteries and appliances will be accepted for recycling. Appliances containing freon, such as old refrigerators and old air conditioners, must have the refrigerant removed prior to its acceptance for recycling.

The city asks that any recyclable waste be taken to the recycling center at 13th and K Streets east of the Ambulance Building where items such as cardboard, magazines and plastics are accepted.

Starting Oct. 31, the waste site is open Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 1-5 p.m.

Aurora’s waste site is open to city residents only.
