Seed corn harvest has experienced a start-pause-resume routine at the beginning of this year’s picking.
Harvest started roughly two weeks ago for its seed corn farmers, said Syngenta plant manager Bill Hunter, but moisture levels ground picking to a halt last week before resuming Labor Day.
“We started (two weeks ago) and did about 75,000 grain bushels, but we ran out of dry corn,” Hunter stated. “We expect to start back up Monday.”

Mike Bjorkman of rural Phillips said their schedule has been mostly the same, with roughly 500 acres picked already.
“We haven’t picked at all this (last week) because we ran out of corn that’s dry enough to pick,” he noted.
