State climatologist: Current dryness a concern PDF E-mail

Yes, it has been dry for most of this winter, and coupled with virtually no snow cover, one climate expert discussed what could be an alarming trend.

Nebraska state climatologist Al Dutcher spoke Jan. 19 at Ag Day about the current dryness pattern.

"If this was the growing season, we might see some yield reduction. But I guess if we’re going to have a drought, now would be the time to have it. Hopefully, we’ll recover," he stated. "My guess is we won’t see any initial ag problems in late April or early May. After that, when the heat goes up, we might see some problems."
