|Little Acres Daycare to open soon|
by James Hanson
Jena Lomasney of rural Aurora felt like she wasn’t getting to spend enough time at home with her children, yet also knew she wanted and needed to help support the family.
The solution: open a new at-home daycare center which will help her achieve both goals. Thus Little Acres Daycare will open for business at 1109 Hwy 34, west of Aurora, on Jan. 4.
"They grow up so fast," she said. "Doing this business will allow me to spend more time with them and save time from traveling back and forth to Grand Island for work every day."
She and her husband Chris have three children; Kelsi (11), Kobe (9) and Kaleb (2).
Taking care of young kids is something Lomasney said comes naturally.
"All through high school I would baby-sit kids at night and on the weekends instead of going out with my friends," she said. "After high school I began working for a daycare in Grand Island, while going to college," she added. "Then I worked as a nanny in New Jersey for a while, before returning home to start my family."
Her mother also ran a daycare for many years.
"My mom and my aunt have helped a lot with questions I had on getting my daycare ready," she said.
Recently, she became licensed to watch up to 10 children, with eight children being under school age.
Lomasney and her husband had talked about starting the at-home business for the past six months and felt the timing was right.
