Fire burns 100 acres near Hampton PDF E-mail

A grass fire spread by high winds burned about 100 acres near Hampton Tuesday afternoon, crossing Interstate 80 and obscuring drivers’ vision with thick smoke.
No one was hurt, said Hampton Fire Chief Steve Arndt.
The fire apparently started early afternoon Tuesday from one that rekindled from five days before. County workers were burning a log in the ditch on Thursday, and the fire must’ve rekindled, he said. The burning permit had been issued, and the workers did nothing wrong, Arndt said.
“They did everything correctly,” he said. “It’s just one of those deals.”

Hampton school raises base pay to $33,600 PDF E-mail
