Public hearing April 18 for TransCanada pipeline PDF E-mail

The U.S. State Department will hold its only public hearing on the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline April 18 at the Heartland Events Center.

It will be split into two sessions, from noon-3 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Registration starts at 11 a.m.

The meeting is the latest step toward TransCanada receiving approval to build a 1,179-mile pipeline with a 36-inch diameter to transport tar sands from the Canadian province Alberta to Steele City near the Nebraska-Kansas border.

 
County fair beer garden decision on tap for commissioners next week PDF E-mail

The Hamilton County Ag Society will have to wait one more week to find out if they will get the okay for a special designated license which would allow them to operate a beer garden at the Hamilton County Fair in July.

Keith Wasem told county commissioners it was the Ag Society’s intent to operate a beer garden both Friday and Saturday nights during the fair, in conjunction with two country music concerts -- similar to what they did last year, but with several improvements.

Connor McDonald was quick off the starting line at Saturday’s Easter egg hunt in Hampton, putting him in good position to fill his basket with colorful goodies. The event was sponsored by the Hampton Community Club and hosted by Hampton Girl Scout Troop 297.
