Former Nebraska state senator and Aurora mayor Hans Jensen developed a close tie with John F. Kennedy during the 1960 election. Jensen served as chairman of the Citizens for Kennedy campaign in Nebraska, and was later invited to go to Washington with his wife, Helen, to join President Kennedy and the first lady in the president's box at the inauguration gala. Jensen and Kennedy are shown together here in a 1960 photograph.

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”

That’s more than a catchy motto for freshman Hailey Dixon. It’s the painful life lesson the Aurora teenager was forced to learn at a very young age while fighting a rare neurovascular disease that made her hurt from head to toe. She knows her condition by name now -- Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy (RND) -- but as a seventh grader all she knew was that she was in pain, nearly all day, every day.
