Museum fundraiser postponed PDF E-mail

The Plainsman Museum's Fundraiser event planned for Saturday evening has been postponed until Monday at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend the basket auction beginning around 7:30 p.m.

 
A basketball marathon PDF E-mail

Seventy-eight teams from near and far swarmed into town this weekend for the 12th-annual Aurora Youth Basketball Tournaments, which proved to be another rousing success.

Squads from communities as far away as Omaha, Elkhorn, Lincoln, Columbus, Kearney and North Platte travelled to Aurora this year, bringing what tournament director Scott Werner estimated to be 3,000 people into the community.

State climatologist: Current dryness a concern PDF E-mail

Yes, it has been dry for most of this winter, and coupled with virtually no snow cover, one climate expert discussed what could be an alarming trend.

Nebraska state climatologist Al Dutcher spoke Jan. 19 at Ag Day about the current dryness pattern.

"If this was the growing season, we might see some yield reduction. But I guess if we’re going to have a drought, now would be the time to have it. Hopefully, we’ll recover," he stated. "My guess is we won’t see any initial ag problems in late April or early May. After that, when the heat goes up, we might see some problems."
