Members of Aurora Boy Scout Troop 28 kicked off the 2014 Hamilton County Fair Wednesday with a ceremonial burning of worn American flags. Scouts layered many flags that had faded and torn over the years, then saluted as they watched them burn. Fair activities kick into high gear Thursday with animal shows during the day. Exhibits go on display at 4:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m., which is when Family Night Fun begins. The DC Lynch carnival will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Balasa a repeat winner in amateur photo contest
Priscilla Balasa of Aurora was out looking for Sandhill cranes to photograph on a brisk winter day when she came upon a pair of Clydesdale horses that caught her eye. The picture she captured that day was selected as the grand prize winner in this year’s Leadership Center amateur photo contest, earning Balasa back-to-back titles.
